What We Do

100% pasture-raised longhorn beef

Our Mission

Raising healthy, hormone-free cattle for affordable and delicious beef while utilizing sustainable Alberta ranching practices to ensure our cattle and our land continue to thrive in the Foothills of Alberta.

Like all ranches, we take pride in the care we provide for our cattle. We give them plenty of pasture to roam and lots of time to grow. Our longhorns spend their spring, summer and fall grazing our foothills pastures.

We do not use any growth hormones or steroids. In the winter months we feed hay that has been cut and baled on our ranch. We finish our beef with a custom blend of organic grains and minerals that we feel really complements the already tender and flavourful beef.

“We purchased beef from Prairie Ridge Ranch and the first thing we noticed was how lean it is! The second thing we noticed was the amazing flavour. It has an earthier, beefier flavour compared to regular store-bought beef. We have seared, grilled and braised many different cuts and it has all been exceptional. A tastier, healthier choice - and we will buy more each year!”

Why Longhorn Beef?

  • Texas longhorn beef is known for its amazing natural flavouring and health benefits..

  • Longhorn beef is genetically leaner than all other cattle breeds, which we think enhances its quality and flavour.

  • Due to its leanness, there is very little shrinkage when cooked.

  • Longhorns naturally have a thin amount of waste back fat, which means the butcher does not typically have to trim as much fat from around the outside of the cut.

  • Natural lean beef in a heart-healthy diet can positively impact blood cholesterol levels. The breed tests lower in cholesterol and higher in protein, higher in vitamin A, CLAs and omega 3 fatty acids.
